MWC Automatic W10 Military Watch – 100m Water Resistant
The W10 is one of the most recognisable British military watch designs ever issued. While many manufacturers have produced versions over the decades, this model is a thoroughly modern interpretation of the classic 1960s–1970s British Army pattern. It preserves the original appearance and proportions but incorporates practical upgrades that bring the watch fully up to contemporary standards.
The most important improvement is the enhanced 100m (330ft) water resistance, double that of traditional W10 watches which typically rely on acrylic crystals and are limited to around 50m. The watch also features a screw-down crown, reducing the risk of damage or loss if the watch is caught on clothing or equipment.
The case is manufactured from military-grade 316L stainless steel with a satin finish. It is designed to be robust, functional and easy to read, with a clear black dial, luminous markers and a sweep seconds hand.
Inside is a reliable 24-jewel automatic movement with approximately a 41-hour power reserve. The movement can also be hand-wound if the watch has not been worn for a few days. Another practical advantage over earlier W10 designs is the screw caseback, allowing straightforward servicing. Historically, many W10 watches were serviced by removing the crystal, which made maintenance far more complicated for watchmakers.
Historical Background
The original hand-wound W10 was the direct predecessor of the quartz G10 military watches used by armed forces today. In 1980 the British MOD even explored fitting a quartz movement into the W10 case pattern, but early quartz movements were too thick to fit the case. This ultimately led to the development of the later G10 specification watches.
